The Best Dad - Mixy Matchy Fusion!

Happy Saturday!  The sun is shining here...such a lovely day for swimming, soccer, and hopefully a little crafting.   Last night I made time to create because I was itching to play along with a few challenges.  When I saw the Mixy Matchy Style Challenge in the Moxie Fab World, I knew I wanted to try my hand at mixing multiple patterns/colors in a fun way.  Then on Friday, when the new Fusion challenge was posted and I saw that inspiration photo with all those mixy-matchy ties I just couldn't wait to get out my papers and start crafting!  :)

At first I thought I might do a Father's Day card with ties in various patterns but then I started playing along with the sketch side of the Fusion challenge too (which is soooo the beauty of this challenge...so many possibilities!) and came up with this:

I just love how this came together!  My best tip for achieving this mixy-matchy style is to gather various patterned papers and lay them out on your table (or floor) and start to pair different patterns together until you get a group that you love.  I found that sticking with rich/masculine colors was a great way to mix it up while still coordinating enough to make the card work...the same would be true of various pastels, brights, or a more feminine color palette.

The papers are from Bo Bunny's Mistletoe collection and My Mind's Eye's Stella & Rose, Miss Caroline, and Collectable collections.

And a close-up...

I popped the loyal and kind squares up on 3D foam to help balance the dimension from the 'you are...' and 'dad' chipboard.

And here is part of my inspiration...
I still have all these papers out on my craft table, so I might just work up another card if I get the chance today.  And there is still plenty of time for you to participate in either of these challenges too!  Click HERE to participate (or see all the great entries) in the Fusion challenge or HERE for the Mixy-Matchy Style Challenge in the Moxie Fab World.

Have a great weekend!

Mom: You are Loved - Fusion Card Challenge #6

I was needing to create a Mother's Day card so I took a look at this week's Fusion Card Challenge to get a little inspiration.  This time I was inspired by both the photo and the sketch.

I loved the gray background and all the pinks/patterns on the photo inspiration and the sketch worked out perfectly too (although I did tweak it a little...I rarely ever follow a sketch 100%).  I can't wait to give this to my mom tomorrow along with a personalized iphone case that has all my boys on it.

Wishing all you moms out there a Happy Mother's Day!

Hello Friend - Fusion Card Challenge

Have you all checked out the Fusion Card Challenge yet?  I love that they made it like a science experiment (so creative!) and that there is both a sketch and inspiration challenge that you can combine or use separately to create your card.  Also, I think it is fun to go and vote for your favorite 3 each week! :)  I found a little time tonight to play along is the challenge for this week.  Here is my card based on the sketch only...

I created this card using American Crafts' XOXO collection...love the pretty pinks and greens in this collection.   I really like how this card turned out and my absolute favorite thing about this card is that pink fluffy stuff which I discovered by mistake!  I had some cute pink pom pom trim that I was going to use but when I cut a little piece to put on the card some of the fuzz was coming out of one of the little pom poms.  So, I went to see if I could pull the fuzz out and the whole trim began to unravel and voila, fluffy pink crafty goodness! :)  My card was based on the Fusion sketch (shown below) although I did flip it.

Shabby Chic Card - Look Who Just Arrived

Oh what a lovely day...the sun is shining, I got some weeding done, played with my boys, and had time to make a card!  Hooray for a good day!   :)

I was inspired this week by the new Fusion Card Challenge (sketch only) and Cath's beautiful Tuesday Trigger (shown above) over in the Moxie Fab World.  When I saw the trigger a few thoughts came to mind...Spring, pretty, soft and sweet, floral, pink, and white.  So, I started digging through my stash and when I came across this gorgeous floral paper from Echo Park's Love Story collection I knew it was the perfect starting point for my card.

The paper inspired me to stray a bit from my normal style and go more shabby chic...

I based the layout of my card off of the Fusion #4 sketch (shown below).  I began by distressing my Core'dinations cardstock just to soften the look a bit.  After adhering my patterned paper I layered some pink ribbon and crocheted lace (Hero Arts) across the card.  Then I added some tulle behind my pink flower (Maya Road) and pleated some pink ribbon across the bottom of the slide frame (from Crate Paper's new collection 'The Pier' {insert puffy heart here!}) and adhered both to the card.  Finally, I distressed a small piece of the cardstock so that a lot of white was showing and stamped my sentiment in Antique Pewter (just a touch of metallic like the Tuesday trigger), trimmed it, bent it a bit to give it more dimension/interest, and adhered it with the button to the corner of the frame.

Here is a close up so you can get a better look at the distressed sentiment flag, slide frame, and lovely ribbon layers.

I hope you've enjoyed my project today because I will be back tomorrow with a coordinating gift/décor project!  :)
